Amundsen High School (1930)

Designed by architect Paul Gerhardt, Sr. (1863–1951), and reflecting the Scandinavian heritage of the area, this school is named for Roald Amundsen, the Norwegian explorer who led the first successful expedition to the South Pole in 1911. The school opened two years after his disappearance on a rescue mission in the Arctic in 1928. Notable alumni include Bob Fosse and Michael Mann.
